Does anyone know the value of this antique portable writing desk?
Its got the original ink wells and nibs with someones name and 1892 written on the back of one of the hidden drawers (it has 3 hidden drawers) so I am assuming its defo that old at least. Its made of walnut wood with brass edgings and I have the original key. The lining inside is the original and it has tiny ink stains on. I'm after a rough ides as to its worth as I do not have a clue! In English pounds preferably please.
It would be best to search for a picture of something similar on the net and see if you can get an idea.Otherwise, take photos from every angle and take the photos to an antique dealer and ask, best to ask a few, so you can average it out. If the desk isn't too heavy, take that, but always have someone else with you and never let them take any object out of your sight.
When it comes down to it, any item is worth what someone else is willing to pay. If some dealer said 100 pounds for an item, then I would advertise it at 200 pounds to sell privately. You can always come down a little, but not go up. Don't take this as the value of your desk, I can't answer that without actually seeing the item, this is just an example.
