Greek Gods....when you ask this question ..well the way you wrote it I get the feeling that you believe in god. Every culture has had their own gods and these gods are their needs personified. To the farmer there is a harvest goddess or a harvest god because their needs are that their crops come in and that they are abundant for both trading and eating. It is literally the bread they eat.

For the greeks..well it's basically the same thing. They personified an energy such as love and called her aphrodite. Keep in mind that the purpose of personifying a god or goddess was to better connect with them and to focus our prayers. So when they were in need of love they turned to her. Again that is just one aspect of aphrodite, she is also a protecter and so many other things.

Even in Christianity you have people who pray to god but also saints. God evolves as the people evolve to meet our needs. It just so happens that these gods are still prayed for today and you can ask of them anything you need just like you would ask a chrisitan god or saint anything that you need. Nothing different except for the name.

Science is very much appreciated in this forum but keep in mind that the purpose of yahoo answers is to provide answers (as well as ask anything we want) to the asker. We get it that you love science but so does everyone here appreciate it just as much. If we didn't then we wouldn't be going to doctors or using computers, now would we?

Science: The observation, identification, description, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanation of phenomena.

Science has yet to provide answer to EVERY natural happening no this planet so until it does it would be wise to not comment as you do especially when you clearly know the purpose of the many stories about gods and goddess. they were used to explain what science has yet to explain but even when it has are still very wonderful stories that can be valid. Consider for a moment the idea of what GOD is.

It's surely not an old man on a cloud we can all agree to that (I think) and when most of us agree that god is everywhere then what can it be? It would be safe to say that energy exists in everything (thanks to science) so GOD is nothing more than ENERGY personified. This energy control everything and holds everything in balance. So because many of us have refused to give up an old term and accept a new term such as energy does not make us any less intelligent than you. From what I have seen there are MANY, and i mean MANY intelligent and gifted people in this forum who have been providing wonderful answers and they are delivered in a tasteful manner. Now my comment may not answer the question but because your answer might be confusing to her, I decided to make a comment on it and it will now be up to the asker to decide what answer feels more correct to her. No matter what she chooses is alright by me.
