I want to buy a baby carrier. There are so many out there I am not sure which one to go with.Any suggestions?
I have looked on line at the Beco carrier and Ergo carrier. Anyone have experience with either of these or other carriers? I have also looked at slings. Not sure what to look for in a baby carrier as I never used one with my first baby. I need it for the park and mall trips. I would like something I can carrier a newborn in. Please help!
The beco looks fine, it seems to support the babies legs in the proper manner rather than allow them to dangle. Possibly the legs end up a little far apart. However it is basically a mei-tei/asian baby carrier which you can sew yourself.
The ergo looks ok, but if you are short like me the waist straps might end up in the wrong place which is very, very uncomfortable.
Basically you want something that is going to be comfortable for you and comfortable for the baby and safe. For me that means support on two shoulders, I don't know how people use slings -then again I have neck and shoulder problems from an injury. For baby you want head support if for a newborn. And you want the weight to be distributed on the buttocks and if possible thighs (or for a sling of course the weight can be supported by the whole back of the baby), if the weight however is on a narrow area of the crotch/spine and the legs are dangling that is not good for baby's spine. Usually for an upright carry you want the legs about 90 degrees from the body and 90 degrees from each other.
