How can I tell if shes bronze?
I have a lovely 25" sculpture of aphrodite and with cupid at her feet who I have always thought to be bronze, however I wonder if anybody could tell me if theres a way I could find out for sure. She is full of plaster (you can see it in her base) and when I tap her she makes a clicking sound. I have put a red hot needle onto her and it didnt make a mark on her. She is a dark brownish colour and on her breasts she is a rosy colour. She is shiny and smooth. I wonder if she is a plaster statue that has been dipped in bronze. She has a hand scratched number on her base quite deeply like it was done before she was cold. She is also very heavy. She is very beautiful so it dosnt matter in value terms, it would just be nice to know.
Any ideas please?
It's probably plaster painted bronze color. You would not leave plaster in a bronze statue, it would be bad for the bronze.
You wouldn't either dip a plaster statue into bronze to cover it with bronze. Bronze casting doesn't work that way (look up lost wax casting if you want to know more).
It might be a plaster copy of an existing bronze statue.
