What is the best way to make a black and white photo not so dull?
I have a color photo that I want to convert to black and white but when I do, its just so dull. I've seen photographer photos that are so crisp and the black and white seem to be very bright and vibrant. I'm not sure if I'm describing it correctly. It's not that the photo is out of focus... the colors are just kinda bleh.. Does that make any sense? Any ideas?
Perki nailed it like usual. Its all about the contrast. Some editors give you a little more than just the contrast control to modify the photo. Some you can turn up the shadows and turn up the highlights to make it work. It gives you more control than simply contrast.
The other thing that I like doing is adding some grain to the image. It does make it look older and I think sometimes that's good. It totally depends on the shot and what you're trying to accomplish with the shot.
Best of Luck.
