How do you Lock a Walther PPK?
This is my first handgun.
It came with a gun lock, and the instructions for the lock say to thread it into the ejection port and out the empty magazine well. The diagram accompanying this instruction seems to show that you should be able to do it without drawing back the slide.
However, the only way to get it into the ejection port is if I draw back the slide. But to lock the gun using a drawn back slide, I need to draw the slide all the way back until it actually locks into place.
I'm not too sure if keeping a gun with the slide drawn all the way back is a good idea for storage... Is it? Will this do any damage to the gun over long periods of time, since stress is being put on the slide-lock?
I also tried to draw the slide back, insert the lock, and release the slide, but this only resulted in five minutes of myself trying to free the stupid lock...
The inherient problem with all gun locks. They suck!!!
You are doing exactly what you are supposed to do.
Lock the slide back, insert the cable through the ejection port, down the mag well. Lock it, then finally slowly release the slide forward.
Leaving it with the slide open is not bad, but not good. It keeps the recoil spring at maximum compression, which means it will wear out faster than if the slide was in battery.
If you need to lock your guns, get a gun safe. Then you don't need to worry about those cheap, horrid gun locks.
I don't think there is a single gun lock design that isn't bad. Trigger locks are a potential negligent discharge waiting to happen.
