i know the ancient egyptians made glass back in there days, but surely it has become stronger. I am doing an assignment at school on it and i need to know how it has become stronger in time.

If you are talking about strength, there has been very little change in glass until fairly recently. By reducing flaws in the glass with improved techniques for blowing/drawing flat sheet, its strength was improved somewhat. But the greatest increase in strength was when tempered glass was developed. Physically tempered glass is made by heating the glass in its final shape to about 900F and chilling it rapidly with blasts of cold air from both sides so the skin contracts down onto the core. When such glass is chipped or punctured, it breaks up into thousands of small cubical shapes which you have probably seen in the street as a result of someone breaking into a car through the side windows.
It is also possible to chemically temper glass which toughens the surface without the abrupt chilling so more complex shapes can be tempered. http://users.ticnet.com/mikefirth/winlight.htm
