Sewing different fabric on jeans?
I have a pair of jeans that I really like but they are too long for me (I am petite). What I would like to do is cut off about 6 inches from the bottom and sew on a different fabric that is embroidered to change the look. My dilemma is choosing a really nice fabric that can be put into the washing machine. I prefer a heavy tapestry like fabric, but I don't think those can be washed. Does anybody have any suggestions on fabric choice?
Wow! I never even considered that I may look shorter so your right Kay. I just may try Patricia's idea.
Thank you all for your ideas and suggestions. It helps a great deal.
Donya, thats a really helpful link. Thanks!
Hi, Gem.
Pre-wash any fabric you decide to use including the jeans if they are new.
The fabric you decide to use may be washable, but it may not be "unshrinkable"!
Instead of a panel of fabric at the hem, try a trim. These you can find in with the trims and ribbons at the fabric store. Pre-wash this too.
The trim is narrower and while it will add a fashion statement, it should not detract from the overall look.
