Embroidery Neck
Help with the name of an Indian garment, please? And what part of India are they from? A man's shirt.....

Namaste

I am referring to those pretty, light-weight white cotton shirts that are cut with long straight sleeves, a high round neck with a placket opening, buttons.... and lots of white embroidery ..the length of the body of the shirt is just down to the hipline....

They come from Rajasthan? What are they called? I have also seen beautiful ones in lightweight colored silk ... they are so pretty! .... great as a top with white pants ..

love, Lakshmi

The ones that come down to the knee level are called kurtas (plural of kurta) or kameez. The shorter ones as you have described in your question are called kurtis (plural of kurti). If embroidered they are called embroidered kurtis. They are found and worn all over North and Western India, especially by women. Certain Rajasthani tribals wear something akin to a frock whose name I don't know.
