I would like to paint on glazed pottery. What do I need to do to prepare the piece and what kind of paint?
I have seen someone paint on Marshall pottery that I know was glazed at one time. I want to do this to paint new vases to go into my new kitchen. Do I need to prepare the pottery, what kind of paint do I need to use and how do I seal it? I would appreiciate help form anyone who has done this before. Thank you!!!
The first thing you want to do is scuff up the glazing so paint will adhere. Use #00 steel wool or 150 grit sandpaper rubbing until the glazing loses it's shine. You can then paint it with any type of paint you want to use. Oil, water-base, acrylics,etc... will all work. After you've painted the pottery you can use a clear sealer spray. They come in satin, gloss, and high gloss.
