Is it really necessary to say God Bless You when someone sneezes?
I believe and God and go to church. But it seems weird to say God Bless You when someone sneezes. It's from an old superstition and has hung around for ever. I have seasonal allergies and I get so tired of "being blessed" when I sneeze. Nobody offers blessings for any other bodily function so why do we need it for sneezing? What if someone doesn't believe in God - is it up to someone else to determine if they need to be blessed when they sneeze?
The tradition of saying God bless you when some One sneezes comes the ancinet myth that when you sneeze, you're soul temporarilly leaves your body and saying God bless you keeps the devil from stealing it; that is why I don't say it any more.
