I have an vintage green glass canister with lid that I cant Identify. Can anyone who knows pattern glass help?
The pattern is grapes and leaves or sometimes called harvest. I think it is pressed glass but unsure. If you can help, send me your email and I will send pics. Thanks.
What size is it? If your description is fairly accurate, it was made by Indiana Glass. They made Harvest Grape (the "official" name) in green carnival glass (iridescent rainbow effect) for only 10 years beginning in 1974. This jar was available in 3 sizes, the most valuable being 9 1/2" tall, including the finial on the top of the lid.
This pattern was originally made in milk glass, when Indiana was bought by Lancaster-Colony (1957), as they were Colony molds. They began production in blue carnival glass in 1971 and added gold and green in 1974. The pattern was also produced in the sixties in the non-carnival colors of olive and amber, with rare pieces of blue satin or green satin. The only satin pieces I've ever seen were the smaller tablewares.
Based on it being carnival:
The large one, generally referred to as a biscuit/cracker barrel or cookie jar, sells on ebay for anywhere between $40 and $120, depending on the day! The smallest one, at 7", is usually between $20 and $40. I have seen the complete set of three sell for $149, so it really does depend on the day! I do not know what the current "book" value may be, but, in my opinion, ebay is a better gauge, as an item is only worth what someone is willing to pay. The prices for the other colors are usually a bit lower, the green is a bit more rare.
These sizes are estimates, as this was hand made glass and can vary. They were molded pieces, but NOT machine manufactured, with very few exceptions, so individual pieces will vary.
