Where did Greek civilization arrive from? Did it ever have a Phoenecian connection?
Did Greek populations ever migrate to Roman territory in any significant way?
Are Greek and Roman languages both of Indo European group? If so, what is the relationship?
I should know all this but I forget everything I learned years ago! (I know I should surf for much of this)
Yes, Greek is Indo-European. Some argue it is the first true Indo-European language, though the writing borrows heavily from Phoenecian script. That doesn't necessarily mean anything... many civilizations with different languages have borrowed each others' scripts and adapted them, noteably when cuiniform became obsolete. Note: don't tell the Greeks this, they staunchly believe that they came up with everything on their own and, in fact, invented the idea of civilisation itself.
What do you mean migrate to Roman territory? The Alexander the Great conquered most of the known world at the time, so technically they were at one point Greek. However, historically before Roman times and to the modern day, Sicily and Turkey had/have very heavy Greek influence.
I'm not sure if Latin counts as Indo-European since it really isn't that old of a language and itself borrows heavily from Greek. There is a theory that Rome was started by the survivors of Troy, but it is not fully known how their language adapted.
