will i ever go back to normal?
i broke my tibula and my fibula in a car crash on april 8th 2009 and they inserted a titanium iron aluminum something haha anyway my bones and joints are still adjusting to it and as a result i have yet to be able to run/jump/jog or walk in flip flops for more than an hour. so does anyone know if this is just like a "re-learning" process for my bones to get used to this new appendage? will my bones eventually adjust?
Bones have two acting organisms that create them and destroy them simultaneously. Technically, the bones you have right now will be totally regenerated 7 years from now. In the same line of reasoning, LITERALLY, all of your current bones will be liquified and reconstructed over a 7 year period. That is why is very important to have a strong calcium source in your everyday meals, such as youghurt.
now, everytime you break a bone this organisms are the ones that fix it. They do it by creating a super ball of bone all around the affected area, and then, over a period of some 7 years, they liquify the excess bone out of the huge ball, and finally your bone is fully recovered just as it was before.
I suggest you take good care of yourself and wait... you have some 5 years remaining before you fully recover your original tibia.
For the record. The "titanium alloy" (a mix of titanium and other metals) was inserted to you in order to "guide" those organisms to reconstructing the bone in a straight way... this is needed since they can only regenerate the bone to its original shape as long as it remains still, it's not like they have a map of your original bones.
Titanium is used instead of other metals because: 1) it doesn't rust from the oxygen in your blood. and 2) it is not identified by your body as an invasive compound and can coexist with you without being attacked by your white cells. Cool huh?
