Islamic history question (see details)?
Why did Hasan (the son of 'Ali, the fourth Rightfully Guided Caliph) give up the Caliphate to Mu'awiyah and the Umayyad Dynasty?
I'm trying to study for an exam and can't find a solid answer anywhere in the text.
I'd appreciate if anyone who answers sites their source.
Thanks in advance.
In order to avoid bloodshed among Muslims, Hasan RA abdicated the
caliphate in favor of Muaviah when he promised that after his death
caliphate will return to the house of Ali RA. But Muavia betrayed by
nominating Yazid, his son for the caliphate. When Husain challenged
him, he killed him in Karbala.
