About a week ago I noticed that my discharge was a fleshy color and thicker than usual but with no odor or pain/itching. Then about a day ago it started to darken to a light brown color with a few spots of red. I am not suppose to start my menstrual cycle for another two weeks and I do not usually have irregular periods since I am on birth control. What causes this or what does it mean?
What you are describing sounds like breakthrough bleeding. Occasionally women have spotting or mild bleeding when taking oral contraceptives. You should discuss this with your OB/GYN who will probably discuss changing the brand of pill you are using. Continue to take your pills every day and make sure you are taking your pills consistently about the same time every day. Breakthrough bleeding can occur when you miss a pill or two or when there is a big time differential regarding when you take your pills. Taking the pill at the same time helps you to keep track and also keeps a consistent level in your system.
