Why do you think the govt forced open homosexuality on the military, but won't support gay marriages?
Even after the gays marry, some insurance companies won't uphold the same entitlements as they do for straight couples.

Because these issues are controlled by different levels of government.The military is a federal organization and subject to the federal government, however gay marriage is not at this time a federal issue. Since the Federal Defense of Marriage Act, it is has been ruled completely a states' rights issue. Insurance companies generally DO give benefits to gay spouses IF the company is set in a state where gay marriage is legally recognized, such as Massachusetts, it's entirely up to the laws of the state in question.
