Suppose I ented an expensive restaurant and are seated by the hostess. A waiter brings me plates, knives, forks, napkins, and other set-ups for dinner, including bread and butter and ice water, all of which I partly consume. When I read the menu, I realize that the prices far exceed what you can afford, and I then make it clear that I do not intend to order a meal. What type of contract (obligation) do I have, if any? Please help.
These are all things that are paid through the price of the regular meal, so by not purchasing a meal, you are obtaining a benefit based upon their assumption that you are purchasing a meal, so they could recover for the benefit you received of water, bread, etc. If they were busy and you took up a table that they could have given to paying customers, you could also be liable for their lost profits on the table.
However, in all practicality, a restaurant isn't going to waste time or money over some bread.
