whats the difference between Natural Silk soy milk and Organic?
almost every store i visit in chicago is selling natural silk soymilk. they use to sell organic. im guessing its cheaper for them to buy. i was a big fan of silk...but now that i see "natural" in all the stores i stopped buying it. i know natural usually means genetically engineered, pesticides etc.
oh well...it was good while it lasted.
anybody got any info on this?
You are correct (and wicca is misinformed) that natural can contain GMO soy that was conventionally raised. Natural has no standards nor is regulated by either the USDA or FDA. Whereas organic is tightly regulated by the USDA and organic foods cannot contain GMO's nor foods that were grown using chemical pesticides, herbicides or drugs (antibiotics and hormones).
I see Silk organic soy milk at the Kroger store I use in a small rural town so I am surprised that you cannot find it in Chicago. Maybe it is time to change brands
http://productlocator.silksoymilk.com/
The product locator on their web site does not show any organic soy milk so perhaps they are no longer doing organic. I wonder if they assume that most people do not know the difference between natural and organic and are willing to pay about the same price for natural as organic.
