If you visit Turkey you will find out that the Turks have changed all the old Greek names in order to hide the Greek history of the land! (Asia Minor had a majority of Greek Population from 800BC till 1922AD. After Greece lost the war with Turkey the Greek population faced atrocities from the Turks and forced to fled to Greece as refuges).
For example the imperial city and proud of the Greeks Constantinople became Istanbul, Adrianopoli became Edirne, Ikonio became Konia, Smyrna became Ismir .
The great city of Allicarnasus became Bodrum!! And the magnificent city of Ephesus became Efes!! Thousand of Greek names were erased from the maps in that way!!
During the centuries of wars between Greeks and Turks there were parts of the Greek mainland that were occupied from the Ottoman Turks. In those areas the Greeks were force to use Turks names or Turkish version of the real Greek names for some parts of the lands. When the occupation forces with a small Muslim population were finally driven out of Greece most of the Turkish names were dropped since there weren’t any Turks around to force their use!
{(This is for ALP). The population of modern Turkey is only 25% Turk. Almost 75% of its population is consistent by different nations that lived in Asia Minor before the Turks appeared in the region. Most of them were forced to turn to Muslims. (Almost 30% of the Turkish population is of Greek origin as a lot of Greeks were forced to turn to Muslims)
You can easy see that if you walk in a Turkish town that used to be part of the Greek provinces of Asia Minor. You will see few faces that look Turkish (Mongolian Asiatic type) and a lot that look European (Bulgarian, Serbian, Croatian, Greek, and other origin!). Also don’t forget that there are 15 million Kurdish fighting for independence in Turkey!
Of course there weren’t ancient Turks!! Turks appeared in Asia Minor 2000 years after the Greeks. Of course they didn’t bring any culture with them but only destruction and pain! (They were very skillful in genocides though!)}
{For Irmak: Irmak please understand that we don’t hate you! Actually we are the only friends you have! But unfortunately Turkey is controlled by a political/military system that is not allowing democracy and full human wrights!
That military system is hiding true history and is presenting propaganda as official history! I personally wish you the best!
Please inform me when exactly Greece attacked you? Didn’t you attack Constantinople first? Didn’t you destroy the Greek Empire of the middle ages? Didn’t you enslave almost entire Greece? Didn’t you kill the Armenians? (Or the Armenians committed suicide?). Were are the Greeks of Constantinople? (270.000 in 1930!! 4000 today!!) }
