Help With Constantine, Pericles, Octavian, and Alexander the Great?
What did Pericles do in the Roman empire? What characteristics made Alexander and Pericles outstanding leaders.
What happened when Constantine moved the capital of Rome. Like what were the after effects of moving the capital.
What effect did Octavian abolishing the Senate have on him being the rule of rome. did he rule with others? if he did, did the people he ruled with turn on him and, if so how. and what does abolishing the senate mean?
Pericles was not a Roman, he was a Greek, or an Athenian if you wanted to be more exact. He came to power and oversaw Athen's efforts during the beginning of the Peloponesian War, which thanks much to him Athens was winning. His death along with a large number of Athenians due to a plague in the city helped change the course of the war in Sparta's favor.
Alexander wasn't Greek, but Macedonian. He wasn't so much successful because of his own efforts but because of those who had come before him. His father had largely set the base of power for his successor, even making many preparations to invade Persia. And Greek tactics had been proven superior to Persian on many occassions (Battle of Plataea, Marathon, the march of the 10,000) However, he was an inspiring leader who did gain spectacular victories, effectively destroying the Persian empire.
Octavian never actually abolished the Senate. He did, in fact, do everything possible to make it appear that the Republic was still intact, all the while holding power behind the scenes. He never even called himself emperor, only "first citizen." However, while the Senate remained, it was devoid of any real authority.
