Sunspots/liver spots: Can they appear as large, bruiselike blotches rather than freckle-y?
I am 43 years old and have noticed this year much darker pigment all around the periphery of my face (not on my cheeks or around my eyes or chin) and on my upper arms and thighs splotches that look like brownish bruises in response (I assume) to the sun. I use 15-30 SPF and never burn and have Mediterranean ancestry that causes my skin to tan easily. Could these be a variation of sun spotting - I've never seen such large patches fitting this description?
Where the spots could be hormonal. As you get older especially around the time of Peri menopause...the loss of Estrogen can cause all kinds of skin discoloration. Sunspots can be any size from a freckle to a silver dollar. I had one the size of a quarter right above my left eyebrow.(people thought it was brown hair dye)
I used MURAD age/pigment spot remover for about 8 months everynight on that spot and dabbed a 50+sunblock on that spot everyday. I use a 45 daily on my face, and after 8 months it was gone.
