What are the raw materials used in a typical roman candle?
I'm doing a light based project for my art course, and I just wanted to know what are the chemicals used in a roman candle? I don't need to make one so they don't have to be exact, and any 'recipe' will do, but i just want a list of the chemicals used to pin up on the painting i'm doing.... thanks!
The chemicals used all depend on the "stars" that are used. The stars are what are the colored balls that are fired from the candle. Different formulas produce different colors.
Here's an excellent set of instructions that includes a few different gold star formulas: http://www.skylighter.com/skylighter_info_pages/article.asp?Item=155#art
Skylighter.com has lots of other colored star formulas as well if you're looking for a specific color.
