What are some medieval guitar songs I can learn on guitar?
I love the sound of medieval guitar, so please list as many songs and/or artists as possible who have a medieval/Renaissance sounding guitar. Thanks!
NO DEATH METAL! If you post death metal or any metal or any music that's not what I'm asking for, you will be reported and I'll see to it you get your answer removed from my question.
There is a good amount of renaissance music for the guitar. And contrary to what some believe, a good amount of composers actually wrote down their music and published it.
Although it wasn't "written" for the guitar, most of the works were written for the vihuela and the lute. But luckily for us, A LOT of people have transcribed the music for the guitar. So it is very accessible.
Some composers (from the renaissance period) that you should look into:
John Dowland
Luis de Milán
Luis de Narváez
Alonso Mudarra
Enríquez de Valderrábano
Diego Pisador
Miguel de Fuenllana
Estevan Daça
Thomas Campian
That should be a good start. But don't limit yourself to just one era of classical guitar, check out Bach's Lute suites (they have been transcribed for the guitar hundreds of times), Agustin Barrios, Fernando Sor...the list can go on forever.
