Expert on sleep and dreams needed! read please..(not to interpret dream)?
I've been only getting about 4 hours of sleep each night and then go to school. Around 3 and 4th period my eyes just cant stay open to the point where my vision becomes blurry.
So id lay my head down and drift off into a sort of nap. im not sure how to call it; its like if someone whispers my name ill wake up (not a heavy sleep). I feel so consumed into my dreams but so close to reality at the same time.
Meanwhile, in these light 3 minute naps i have wild dreams. Always. And i always interpret it witht he class. For example, i had a dream that my friend that sits in front of me turned around and was showing off a peice of pottery she made (she takes pottery) and then i opened my eyes and it wasnt happening.
Events such like that, or sometimes way crazy involving killers or dancing food or rain in the room.
Why does my mind drift off into such a different psychotic world when im still half awake?
The brain is a very complicated organ. Sleep is a huge mystery in the science world. No one knows the real reason we need to sleep. And we're only at the beginning of understanding the chemistry of it. When you fall asleep, the brain is still fully operational. Hearing is the most alert sense while sleeping which can help account for some dreams. For example-If someone were to be watching a movie and fall asleep in front of the TV, not a deep sleep but sleep, they can still hear the movie going on and the brain can project and "imagine" if you will images based on what it's hearing in to movie. Same goes for your dream.
Your friend sits in front of you. You probably were reminded of that in some way before you fell asleep. People and images trigger memories. Like when you were reminded of your friend, your brain pulled out the memory you have that she takes pottery and produced the dream. Simple things like that can happen. I was watching TV once and this ONE line that ONE character said, totally casually, triggered this incredible dream based just on THAT line. No one knows why this is.
Your brain was probably also still aware of the fact that you were in class, and therefore it stayed alert, but it still wanted to sleep. Therefore, it kept you JUST barely alert enough. It is a known fact that when we sleep we HAVE to dream. As in, it's REQUIRED, for one reason or another. So your brain NEEDED to dream, but it also NEEDED to be alert. Therefore you were in this weird space between being asleep and being awake.
The brain is absolutely incredible. If you want to know more, I would suggest doing some research of your own! You'll be interested in what you find!
