Do you add salt to washer when dying quilt?
I've dyed a faded red duvet several times. Someone told me to add a box of salt to the hot washer tub water before adding the duvet. I dye it red to make it a richer red.
I always add salt to the hot water when I dye cloth. I generally add a 1/2 cup to a cup of salt to the hot water. Salt increases the ions in the water which helps to distribute the dye throughout the water then aids in opening up the fibers of the cloth to allow the dye to soak in better.
