All original antiques are protected by law. If I'm not mistaken the newest should be at least 100 years old.Anyway to be taken legally out of the country a certificate must be issued by the Archaeological or Byzantine Curators.
Anything presumed to be antique is more likely made to look antique when in reality is cheap replicas.
The best place for anything of the sort will be Monastiraki Flea Market where there are many stores of the kind.
The trick is not to look over keen for anything of their merchandise because they immediately raise the price.
As long as you know what you are looking for you will find something of real value if you have the time to look for it.
The key to a successful buy is to bargain and then again you will always feel you could have lowered the price more.
The open Sunday Flea Markets in Piraeus and Sxisto are also a possible place to find something worth buying. But you need at least one Sunday for each to search unhurriedly.
In Piraeus there are also some shops with antiques that can be visited other days too. In Sxistois tottaly open.
