My husband left behind this rare book, and I know it was printed in 1812, however it's in a plastic bag, and the cover is so worn I can't read the title. I don't want to open the book because it looks as though it is about to fall apart. Is there a site where I can find rare book from that age that possibly has pictures of the book so I can identify it?
Someone at some point will have to open the bag. Just handle it as careful as you can and I would suggest you take a photo of the book out of the bag and the title page at least. Note the author number of pages in the book as well.
You can then, now with this information, go to www.abebooks.com and put in the author, title of book and search. A list of books will come up and you should be able to tell (if the same book and in the same condition) was the asking retail value is and thus determine if this book has any real value.
