How do you trade pokemon from version Leaf Green/ Fire Red to version Ruby/Sapphire?

I've already beaten the elite four and gotten the national pokedex. I've already taken Ceilio the ruby and the sapphire so I guess he has fixed the machine, but whenever I try to trade the screen stays at please wait. Any tips?
