Is it true that if the roman empire had not fallen apart,we would have tv 500yrs ago?
They'd invented pumps and had dedicated fire brigades in rome 2000 years ago,had learned how to tranport vast quantities of water by building aquaducts, were experimenting with steam power, had hot running water-2000yrs ago-if we did'nt have the dark ages, would we all have developed faster.
I doubt it. The Romans were not particularly inventive. They had plumbing, but they didn't actually make any particular advances with their inventions. I doubt things would have developed any faster if the Roman Empire had continued. Why should it?
And in fact the Middle Ages ('Dark Agess' applies only to the centuries immediately after the Roman Empire fell) was quite an inventive era. Spectacles, the mechanical clock, the compass, the horse collar, the blast furance, and many improvements in agriculture and architecture, were all developed during the Middle Ages. The idea that it was an uninventive age is quite erroneous.
