Scale Weight
How can i build a heavy weight scale?

I need to build a scale that will weight, preferably up to 1000lbs. Is it possible to make my own scale?

One way would be to mount a platform on top of four bathroom scales, then place the weight on top of the platform. Standard bathroom scales have a maximum weight capacity of 350 lbs, and are quite cheap. They are also self-zeroing so the weight of the platform would be accounted for. This system should be quite accurately.

You could also make a scale that uses only 1 or 2 scales by having a seesaw with a weight that is less then any weight you need to measure on one side, and the object being measured on the other side. Then put the scale(s) under the side with the object on it, and find the weight of object by adding the number on the scale with the weight on the other side. This scale could handle heavier weights if you put more weight on the other side, however it would be more complicated to build and not as accurate.

Given the low price of bathroom scales i would recommed the first method
