How to know if a coin you bought is genuine?
I bought this coin a week ago from an online coin dealer, part of the VCoins ring, which I considered to be more reputable than eBay. But my question is; how do you really know if a coin is real and not a fake or forgery? Without paying an arm and a leg of course
This is the coin. Athena/Owl Tetradrachm Old style 449-413 BC. It does have that 'weight' you can feel from older pure silver coins, but how to know for sure?

The dealers on VCoins are all on the up and up as far as I know for I have never had a problem. Does the dealer guarantee what he sells, did you pay about what the going rate is, for there are very few deals on coins that are on the up and up. The main rule is read the book before buying the coin. One does not check weight by feel and the coin is not pure silver anyway. You weigh the coin with a scale, to lite or to heavy it is a fake. Yahoo did not let your link be reached from here so I have not seen the coin. You could send the coin to ANACS to have it authenticated they are more reasonable than others and know there ancient coins better anyway.
