Potential Rare Artifact?
My dad has this small Hindu-looking elephant, and I was wondering what it might be? It is about as big as my thumb, and it is hollow. It is made out of some sort of metal, and has no stamp on it, which makes me think that it was home-made. My dad looked at it in a magnifying glass, and he said it's consistent throughout the entire artifact, so it is not coated to look more valuable. My dad said there used to be stones in the eyeballs. I will appreciate it if you could help me. Thank you!
There are a couple of routes you can take here. You can take the piece to a local museum and have someone look at it. Not a small, two bit museum but something found in either the larger cities or university campus.
You also may want to document its measurements and photograph it. Email it to any museum you find online that would deal with this stuff like the Museum of Natural History in New York or any museum dealing with Hindu-Eastern Indian artifacts and history. In fact that method is probably your best bet. Good luck. Might be something rare and historical or might be dime store junk. Certainly is worth checking out though.
