Im moving in with a room mate and his couch is chocolate brown. can we make a brown black and white theme work? My wall hanging and frames are black and white, and our walls will be white. i was thinking of throwing black and white pillows on the couch to continue theme...any ideas?
Brown can work with black and white, it's all a matter of how you put it together. Rather than focus on solid colors, try to look for different shapes or patterns that emphasize the colors without having to deal with solid fabric.
A good rule of thumb is to focus on one other large focal point which draws the brown from the couch. A great way to blend a room together is through the use of an area rug. Area rugs, although on the floor, quickly catch the eye if you have one with geometric shapes that also pull from your other color scheme. A great example of what I am talking about is here:
You can also focus on smaller accessories. Purchase black frames in various shapes and sizes, then place them in a collage on your white walls. You'll find that they blend perfectly with your brown couches. Try to find throw pillows with geometric shapes or plaids that include dark brown, black, and white. You'd be surprised at how many color combinations include black, white, and brown.
