So yeah im having issues.
if a recipe calls for yellow grits, will using white grits drastically change taste?
and if a recipe calls for "yellow or white cornmeal" can i substitute that with white grits or masa harina?
and also can i use the corn flour instead of all purpose white flour ?
Yellow and white grits are completely interchangeable . However there will be the obvious difference in color . Also the flavors of the two are completely different to one another . Keep this in mind for what you are preparing .
Masa Harina can in some recipes be substituted , but not all . There are different grades , so check your grocer as most American grocers only carry one . If you have a Latino grocery near you your choices will be greater .
Corn flour and All Purpose flour are two completely different compound make - ups . You cannot use either of these interchangeably except as a thickener for certain sauces or gravies . Keeping in mind that the corn flour will give this thickened item a noticeable change in flavor .
